The consulting team from LBC made a visit to the Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter, located in the province of Cuanza-Sul, in the context of pinpointing investment opportunities. On site, Gesterra managers, who oversee the administration and promotion of investment opportunities within Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter, accompanied the LBC team during the tour through the large agricultural premises. The main purpose of the visit was to gather critical information, as well as to evaluate the quality of investment prospects associated with this Integrated Project, featured on InvestAngola website.
By guaranteeing water for fertile lands in Cuanza-Sul, along with necessary equipment, this significant hub for agricultural production of cotton and native crops aims to enhance food security and income generation for families in the region, but also to contribute to Angola overall economy. The visiting team had the opportunity to explore the different areas, such as the central nucleus with its specialized infrastructures, the pumping stations and reservoirs, the electrical substation or the maintenance workshop and warehouses; and the rural village with the projection of 250 houses (with 85 agricultural social housing already concluded).
Currently the Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter houses eight communities, encompassing approximately 400 families who have begun to experimentally cultivate crops, with a particular focus on watermelon and maize.
Meanwhile, a new funding program is to be launched, as part of the cooperation agreement between Gesterra and FADA – Fundo de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Agrário (Agricultural Development Support Fund). In this program, which aims to stimulate part of the region, 100 recent Agronomy graduates will each receive 2 hectares of land, a house, and 5 million Kwanzas.
